Posted by Carole Koch

3 tablespoons melted butter, divided
2 tablespoons flour
1 cup milk
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 teaspoon salt
Dash black pepper
2 cups diced cooked rutabagas
1/4 cup bread crumbs

Combine 2 tablespoons butter and flour in a heavy saucepan over low heat. Cook 1 minute, stirring constantly. Gradually stir in milk; cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until smooth and thickened. Add cheese and seasoning, stirring until the cheese is melted. Place rutabaga in lightly greased small casserole; top with sauce. Combine bread crumbs with remaining 2 tablespoons butter; sprinkle over casserole. Bake at 400 degrees F. for 15 minutes.

Serves 3 to 4.
