The five internship positions for the 2008 season are filled. In August, 2008, we will begin taking applications for the 2009 season. We expect to have five positions available for persons who are interested in helping with and learning about organic vegetable farming in 2009, from April through October. We can be somewhat flexible with school schedules, but priority will be given to applicants able to start in April and stay through October.
Interns have the opportunity to learn about farming by doing, including
planting, cultivating, greenhouse operations, harvesting, and post-harvest
handling. In addition, as members of the Collaborative Regional Alliance for
Farmer Training (CRAFT), we make it possible for our interns to take part in
off-farm learning experiences--an intern orientation at Michael Fields
Agricultural Institute in April and CRAFT workshops at organic farms in the
region periodically through the season.
From mid-June through mid-August at our farm, we have nature discovery day
camps for elementary-age children. If one of the farm interns is interested
in children's education, it may be possible to work half-time assisting our
environmental educator with the day camps, and half-time with the field
crew. If this interests you, be sure to indicate so in your application.
Applicants should be physically capable, energetic, and willing to work in
hot and/or wet weather. Our crew of hired hands, interns, and community
volunteers works hard and has fun at the same time. Intern work hours are 8
a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
