The Green Earth Institute

The Green Earth Institute is a nonprofit organization established in 2002 to promote nutritional health and environmental sustainability. Using our organic farm as a demonstration and learning center, we grow healthful vegetables in an earth-friendly way and educate about nature, nutrition, and caring for the earth.

On our 60 acre farm located in south Naperville, Illinois, a suburb 35 miles west of downtown Chicago, we grow over 40 crops of nutritious, delicious organic vegetables, and sell them through our community-supported agriculture (CSA) program. For children we offer gardening and nature appreciation programs, and for adults we offer information and instruction about nutrition and environmentally sustainable practices for home, yard, and garden.

Really good food—there's just no substitute.
Do it for yourself...do it for your family.
It's never too late to start eating better!

Expanded Plant Sale Saturday May 7, 8am-3pm

We decided to not stage a Green Earth Fair this year, but on May 7 we will have an expanded Plant Sale in collaboration with The Conservation Foundation and The Resiliency Institute. At this broader “McDonald Farm Plant Sale”, Green Earth Institute will offer organic vegetable and herb seedlings while others will have available native landscape plants -- flowers, grasses, trees, and shrubs.

For your home garden:  Tomatoes, peppers, kale, Swiss chard, eggplant, and herbs! 47 varieties to choose from. All certified organic and grown by Green Earth staff and volunteers, here at our farm. All proceeds will be used to support educational programs of the Green Earth Institute. See veg sale list.

Learn more about the native plants offering, including possible pre-ordering for pickup at the McDonald Farm Plant Sale, at The Conservation Foundation.

Fresh Locally-Grown Organic Veggies - Register for our CSA!

Get fresh from the farm, certified organic vegetables, from May through November, 2016! Enroll in the Green Earth CSA and receive a box of fresh organic vegetables every week or every other week. The Main Season runs 20 weeks from June 14 to October 28. Also available are Spring (4 weeks, May 17 to June 8) and Late Fall (4 weeks, November 1-23).

We have held the line on prices, and there are two major new features for 2016 — expanded hours on pickup days at the farm, and the addition of a new, smaller, “Personal Size” share option. You can read all about it and sign up at CSA.
